Innovation Fund Denmark’s support for TDUs
Innovation Fund Denmark offers support for establishing and scaling up test and demonstration facilities within selected technology areas.
The support must contribute to companies and other relevant actors get better access to facilities and infrastructure, where new technologies can be at virksomheder og andre relevante aktører får bedre adgang til faciliteter og infrastrukturer, hvor nye teknologier kan afprøves, demonstreres og videreudvikles. Det kan for eksempel være faciliteter, der understøtter test, forsøg eller opskalering tættere på praktisk anvendelse.
Who can apply?
Who can apply depends on the individual call. For example, it may be companies, consortia, GTS institutes, universities or other stakeholders that establish and operate facilities with a focus on innovation and commercial application.
Each call for proposals specifies which types of applicants are eligible for funding. All current opportunities for funding the establishment and scaling up of test and demonstration facilities can be found among Innovation Fund Denmark’s open calls.

About TDUs

A TDU is a collective term for facilities, equipment, capacity and resources that can be used for testing, trials and development.
This may include, for example, test benches, pilot lines, demonstrators, testing facilities or living labs. A TDU may also include associated support services. TDUs are mainly used by companies, especially SMEs, seeking support to test and develop new or improved products, processes and services, as well as to test and scale up technologies. The purpose is to drive progress in industrial research and experimental development.

A TDU can be used to:
- test new technologies, products or solutions
- demonstrate how a solution works in practice
- develop and mature technology at a larger scale
- validate functionality, quality or potential applications
- support scaling, commercialisation and market maturity
- give multiple stakeholders access to shared capacity and specialised infrastructure
TDUs can therefore help reduce the distance from ideas and knowledge to application and market.

TDUs may be relevant for companies, universities, GTS institutes, hospitals, public-sector stakeholders and other organisations working with the development, testing and demonstration of new solutions.
The facilities can be established by a single stakeholder or in collaboration between several parties. The key is that they create value for a broader ecosystem and not only for the individual applicant or project owner.
For example, a TDU can give small and medium-sized enterprises access to equipment and testing opportunities that they would otherwise not have the resources for. It can also strengthen collaboration between companies and knowledge institutions and make it easier to bring new technology from the laboratory into practice.
