Grand Solutions 2026: Defence technology and innovation

Like the application process, the assessment process takes place in two phases.

Phase 1: Letters of Interest/Letter of Interest

1. Initial screening
   We check whether the application meets the formal requirements.
2. Professional assessment
   A committee consisting of established international researchers and impact specialists assesses the submitted ideas and selects which ones proceed.
3. Notification to applicants
   You will either receive an invitation to Phase 2 or a rejection.

Phase 2: Application

1. Screening
   We carry out an administrative and formal screening of the application.
2. Professional assessment and decision
   The application is assessed by a committee consisting of established international researchers and impact specialists with expertise in Danish conditions. External experts with specific subject-matter expertise may be involved in this process if deemed relevant to the assessment. The committee makes the final investment decision.
3. Hearing (consultation)
   You will have the opportunity to respond to the evaluation if external experts have been involved in assessing the application.
4. Notification to applicants
   You will either receive an offer to enter into an investment agreement or a rejection.

Applications are assessed by Grand Solutions’ four expert committees, which both assess the applications and make the investment decision.

The committees consist of established international researchers and impact specialists with expertise in Danish conditions. They meet to qualify the assessments and ensure a solid professional basis for each decision.

Applications for Grand Solutions are assessed based on three overall assessment criteria:

1. The quality of the idea
2. Impact
3. Quality of execution

In the Phase 1 and Phase 2 guidelines, you will find a further explanation of the three overall criteria and their sub-criteria.

Please note that the sub-criteria for the two phases are not identical.

In Phase 1 you will either receive an invitation to submit a detailed application in Phase 2 or a rejection.

In Phase 2 you will either receive an offer to enter into an investment agreement with the fund or a rejection.

In both phases, you will be notified in e-grant.

In Phase 1 you will receive a response to your application after 10 weeks.

In Phase 2 you can expect a 12-week response time for your application.

The overall timeline is 9 months from the Letter of Interest in Phase 1 to the final response in Phase 2.

If the application is approved, the project parties have 60 days to enter into an investment agreement with Innovation Fund Denmark.

The project must start no later than 90 days after the agreement is signed. If this does not happen, Innovation Fund Denmark may require parts of the investment to be repaid.

The project may start as soon as an approved investment agreement is in place, and must start no later than 90 days after signature.

Disbursement takes place either annually or semi-annually, at the grant holder’s own request, and is administered in cooperation between Innovation Fund Denmark and the project’s financial administrator.

Innovation Fund Denmark is actively involved in all Grand Solutions projects throughout the entire project period. We appoint one or more Programme Officers for this task.

Project follow-up and the requirements for accounts and reporting are set out in the investment agreement that Danmarks Innovationsfond enters into with each project.

Innovation Fund Denmark may terminate its investment early if the project does not progress as planned, proves unviable, or is not expected to achieve its objectives.

There is ongoing dialogue between Danmarks Innovationsfond’s Programme Officer and the project’s steering committee regarding progress.

At the project’s final steering committee meeting, the final accounts and the project’s course and results are reviewed and evaluated.
